A Light in the Room

In 2015, Chloe Youtsey traveled to Roanoke to hear her hero, Gregory Porter, perform at the Jefferson Center. After the show, she nervously approached him for an autograph, eager to express her admiration. As he handed back his signature, Porter paused, looked at her, and asked, “Are you a singer?” When she stammered a yes, he simply replied, “I can tell. You have a light.”

To this day, Chloe regrets not saying thank you—she was too stunned, floating somewhere above the ground in disbelief.

A Voice Beyond Borders

Distinct from the current wave of singers who aim to replicate the vintage vinyl sound of early jazz legends, Chloe's voice is uniquely contemporary while offering nostalgia, blending youthful energy with seasoned depth. Often drawing comparisons to the timbre of brassy male vocalists such as Kurt Elling and Mark Murphy, others hear a likeness to the style of female vocalists such as Karen Carpenter and Anita Baker. While self-accompanying, her piano stylings draw from bebop’s rich harmonic language, while her vocal phrasing delivers an edge of soul and R&B. Her tone evokes the richness of dark culinary treats—chocolate, whiskey, wine—often described in terms of “velvet,” or “butter.”

From Texas to Virginia to Spain, Chloe’s performances start off unassuming and end with emotions having been summoned from the deepest places. Her music has reached listeners across the U.S., France, Brazil, Australia.

Charmingly Disarming

As a songwriter, Chloe’s compositions embody a blend of soul, jazz, and 70s yacht rock while remaining deeply rooted in her personal inspirations—faith, family, and the longings of the heart. Having spent years in quiet solitude at the piano since the age of five, her performances feel less formal and more like invitations to a jam session.

Often found in a trio setting, Chloe’s eyes rarely glance at the keys, her hands seemingly moving of their own accord. Crowd work is often punctuated by laughter from the crowd, yet when it's time to deliver a soaring ballad, the room responsively stills. There is a true sense of control and command for attention, despite the understated sincerity of her presence.

Her originals transcend decades, effortlessly blending the stylings of disco, Motown, funk, modal jazz, bossa nova, and R&B.

Art Through Every Medium

Whether through the retelling of classic jazz standards, original compositions, or visual art, Chloe remains dedicated to storytelling, creativity, and connection. Her painting Claire de Lines—created to commemorate her debut international performances in Barcelona in 2024—reflects the same expressive energy that fuels her music. Her children's book, “Little Monster,” is a playful illustration of a deep love for a family pet. With a decade of output she has mastered taking her work seriously while not taking herself too seriously.

A Life in Harmony

A devoted wife and mother, Chloe uses her platform to champion the balance between artistry and family life, proving that creative success doesn’t end with parenthood—it evolves. And for her, the best is yet to come.
